Delivering renewable energy infrastructure through EPC expertise

The Overberg Wind Farm Project by Red Rocket.

As Africa’s renewable energy sector expands, the operational success of new projects increasingly hinges on the disciplined execution of grid interconnection and the deployment of resilient electrical infrastructure. Achieving secure grid synchronisation, ensuring regulatory compliance and optimising for long-term reliability are essential to maximising energy yield and safeguarding asset performance.

ACTOM Power Systems, part of ACTOM Engineering, Projects and Contracts (EPC), a division of the ACTOM Group, provides engineered electrical infrastructure that underpins the reliability and compliance of renewable energy projects. With extensive technical expertise and a track record of delivering complex grid solutions, ACTOM Power Systems supports the integration of large-scale renewable generation into South Africa’s transmission network.

Turnkey EPC delivery for renewable energy projects

ACTOM Power Systems delivers turnkey medium- and high-voltage electrical infrastructure for renewable energy projects, managing the full project lifecycle from engineering design and equipment procurement to site construction, installation and commissioning. This integrated delivery model ensures system-level design integrity, reduces interface risk and supports the predictable performance required for grid-connected renewable assets.

By assuming full EPC responsibility, ACTOM EPC provides clear accountability and disciplined execution across all project phases, ensuring strict alignment with transmission-grid standards and regulatory requirements.

Grid infrastructure supporting the Overberg Wind Farm

ACTOM EPC is the appointed EPC contractor for the Agulhas Main Transmission Substation, which supports the Overberg Wind Farm, a renewable energy project developed by Red Rocket. A key project milestone was recently achieved with the arrival of the first of two 400/132 kV, 500 MVA transformers at the Agulhas Main Transmission Substation.

The delivery and placement of equipment of this scale require detailed planning, specialist transport coordination and precise on-site execution. Once both transformer units are installed and operational, they will play a critical role in enabling power evacuation for both phases of the Overberg Wind Farm project, supporting long-term grid reliability and operational performance.

Proven capability in complex renewable environments

The Agulhas transmission works demonstrate ACTOM Power Systems’ capability to execute technically demanding renewable energy infrastructure under challenging conditions. The project required disciplined project management, close coordination between engineering and construction activities and rigorous adherence to safety and quality standards.

These works reinforce the value of experienced EPC delivery in managing complex interfaces and ensuring that grid infrastructure is commissioned to meet stringent performance and reliability benchmarks.

Local capability that reduces risk

ACTOM Power Systems’ strong local execution capability enhances coordination during construction and commissioning while supporting long-term operational reliability. Local engineering expertise and an in-depth understanding of South Africa’s grid environment enable efficient project delivery and risk-managed execution.

Through projects such as the Overberg Wind Farm transmission infrastructure, ACTOM Power Systems continues to support South Africa’s renewable energy transition by delivering durable, compliant and reliable electrical infrastructure that enables renewable power to flow from generation to the grid.
