New Danfoss iC7-Automation drives

BMG has launched the new Danfoss iC7-Automation Variable Speed Drive (VSD) enclosed range, marking the local introduction of a drive platform Danfoss designed to be intelligent, versatile, future-proof, and reliable.

“BMG and Danfoss Drives have enjoyed over a decade of close collaboration since signing a strategic alliance agreement in 2015. This formal partnership arrangement strengthened BMG’s original distribution agreement for Danfoss VSDs and the soft starter range, which has been in place since 2007,” explains Sean McCree, Key Account Lead, BMG. “As part of the launch, BMG has made a significant investment in local stock, with 400 V IP20 iC7-Automation models available up to 710 kW. This strategic stockholding enables faster delivery, improved project support and reduced lead times for customers in diverse industrial sectors.

“The introduction of the Danfoss iC7-Automation range forms part of BMG’s ongoing strategy of introducing advanced automation technologies that improve productivity, energy efficiency and operational reliability in Africa.

“The Danfoss iC7-Automation series has been developed as a VSD platform for demanding industrial applications where performance, uptime and ease of integration are essential. This new range has been designed to simplify commissioning, optimise machine performance and provide users with greater operational flexibility throughout the lifecycle of their equipment.

“The portfolio covers the range of frequency converters: 0.37 – 710 kW, air-cooled system modules: 200 – 2700 kW and free-standing enclosed drives: 200 – 1200 kW (with both 6-pulse and AFE variants) in the voltage range 380-500V. This portfolio will be extended to 525-690V and higher powers in 380-500V in the coming months.”

A key advantage of the iC7-Automation platform is its ability to adapt easily to changing application requirements.

BMG has launched the new Danfoss iC7-Automation Variable Speed Drive (VSD) enclosed range, marking the local introduction of a drive platform designed by Danfoss specifically to be intelligent, versatile, future-proof and reliable.

Enhanced fieldbus flexibility enables rapid switching between industrial communication protocols without additional hardware, helping system designers standardise equipment, simplify upgrades, and reduce engineering complexity.

This range also includes advanced diagnostic and monitoring capabilities that help maintenance teams identify potential issues before they become costly failures. Improved backup and restore functionality, along with enhanced software tools, streamlines commissioning and maintenance procedures, reduces downtime, and improves service efficiency.

In addition, safety and system availability have been enhanced through new integrated features designed for modern automated plants. These include advanced safety functions, improved redundancy options and expanded communication capabilities that support reliable operation in critical industrial environments.

Danfoss iC7-Automation drives, designed to be compatible with a wide range of motor technologies, give users greater flexibility when specifying equipment for new installations or modernisation projects. Scalable architecture also allows the platform to accommodate future expansion to meet changing production requirements.

BMG’s Electronics division supports customers throughout the selection, installation and operation of the new drive range, with specialist application engineering, technical advice and after-sales service. This includes rolling out Danfoss Drives DrivePro® 360Live, Danfoss Drives' digital asset management platform.

Complete technical solutions, combined with the company's investment in local stockholding, ensure customers benefit not only from leading technology, but also from dependable local support.

BMG has invested significantly in distribution, engineering facilities, and technical skills. Dedicated VSD workshops in Cape Town, Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal are approved warranty centres for Danfoss and Vacon VSD products.

These world-class electromechanical facilities are staffed by globally trained experts who provide specialist services, including repairs, maintenance, option fitment, pre-commissioning, telephonic support, software loading/upgrades, and VSD load testing.

“Mining operators are under increasing pressure to improve productivity, reduce energy consumption and maximise equipment uptime. With the iC7-Automation platform, Danfoss is delivering a future-ready drive solution that combines high performance, advanced connectivity and built-in cybersecurity. Together with our trusted partners, we are helping customers optimise their operations today, while preparing for the evolving demands of tomorrow,” says Shikantha Naidoo, Danfoss Power Electronics & Drives Country Sales Manager for Sub-Sahara & Africa.
