Redefine Properties has signed a 20-year renewable energy wheeling agreement with NOA Trading to supply 37 GWh of electricity annually to 11 Eskom-connected properties. The deal is expected to reduce carbon emissions by over 39 000 tonnes per year.
The agreement allows energy to be reallocated across multiple sites with supply sourced from both NOA-owned generation facilities and third-party independent power producers. A key supply source is the Khauta solar photovoltaic project near Welkom in the Free State.
This agreement follows the launch of the National Energy Regulator of South Africa’s wheeling framework by Minister of Electricity and Energy Kgosientsho Ramokgopa. The framework standardises third-party access to Eskom and municipal grids.
A municipal wheeling phase is planned as the next stage of the project.
