BP has confirmed the start of gas production from the Quiluma field, part of the New Gas Consortium (NGC) project in Angola, operated by Azule Energy in joint venture with BP and Eni.
According to BP, Azule Energy holds a 37,4% stake in the NGC project alongside Cabinda Gulf Oil Company with 31%, Sonangol E&P 19,8%, TotalEnergies 11,8% and ANPG as national concessionaire.
The project’s gas treatment plant in northern Angola was inaugurated in November last year. According to BP, production began from the Agogo field at the Agogo Integrated West Hub project in Block 15/06 offshore Angola in July 2025.
BP said the NGC project is Angola’s first non-associated gas development. Gas is produced from the shallow water offshore Quiluma field, treated at an onshore processing facility, and then delivered to the Angola liquefied natural gas plant for export.
“This project marks an important step for Angola’s energy system and strengthens the country’s energy mix as it looks to enhance its position as a global player in the natural gas market,” said Gordon Birrell, BP’s Executive Vice President: Production and Operations and Azule Board member.
Initial production from the Quiluma field is expected to be 150 million standard cubic feet a day, rising to 330 million standard cubic feet a day by the end of the year.
The company also started the Ndungu development in February.
