Microgrids: Mini but mighty power sources

The availability of modular power generation systems, coupled with relaxed regulatory restrictions, has spurred the development of power generation and distribution systems capable of operating independently of utility grids. Known collectively as minigrids, these systems vary in size and application with significant attention directed toward microgrids and nanogrids.
