Energize reader survey reveals strong technical engagement and sector influence

Energize readers are a highly engaged, technically skilled audience that play a central role in South Africa’s electrical and energy decision-making environment. These were the findings from Energize’s recent reader survey.

The publication is widely used across the power, industrial and renewable-energy sectors to support operational and strategic decisions. The survey shows that its core readership consists of professionals who design, specify and evaluate electrical and energy systems, including engineering service providers, renewable-energy developers, industrial operations, utilities and government stakeholders.

Engineers and technical specialists make up 44% of respondents, followed by consultants and independent advisors at 21%. Executives account for 11%, with academics, project managers, procurement specialists and other professionals comprising the remainder.

High engagement across channels

The survey reflects strong engagement and usage across all formats. 98% of respondents said they find Energize valuable to their work.

91% read the digital magazine every month or regularly. 44% say they read every edition of the twice-weekly newsletter, and a further 30% say they catch up at least once a week.

Respondents say they use Energize often in their professional work: 84% use it to stay up to date with industry developments; 59% use it for technical knowledge and CPD learning; and 24% it for business development and networking.

63% of respondents report influencing or making purchasing decisions on energy-related systems and technologies, and 30% of respondents reported contacting a supplier after seeing them in Energize.

Readers trust technical accuracy

Respondents consistently emphasised technical depth and practical relevance in their feedback. Comments describe Energize as:

  • “Professional, practical and straight to the point – it’s my go-to for understanding where the sector is headed.” – Electrical Contractor
  • “A reliable and informative resource. One of the few local publications that gets the technical side right.” – Engineering Director
  • “Technical, relevant and covers a wide range of topics in the energy sector.” – Consultant

The data shows that professionals continue to seek clear, technically accurate insight into generation technologies, grid and protection challenges, storage and renewable-energy applications as well as practical case studies and supplier information.
