Sub Sahara Power Distributors recently partnered with JP Engineering to deliver a customised, future-ready power solution tailored to the demands of their growing fabrication and manufacturing operations. The installation supports South Africa’s industrial sector with reliable, efficient and scalable energy systems.
Based in Johannesburg South, JP Engineering required a high-capacity generator system to ensure uninterrupted operation of its heavy-duty machinery and welding equipment. In this environment, power stability is essential – even brief outages can disrupt production, damage equipment and delay delivery schedules.
Following a detailed site assessment and technical consultation, Sub Sahara Power Distributors supplied and installed a Rehlko V550 diesel generator (formerly Kohler Energy): a 500 kVA prime-rated unit built for high performance in demanding conditions. The generator is powered by a Volvo diesel engine, paired with a Rehlko alternator, and housed within a weatherproof, sound-attenuated canopy to reduce noise and increase durability in outdoor environments.
Key to this solution is the APM403P digital controller, offering intelligent load management, remote monitoring and user-friendly operation. The system is also equipped with an electronic engine for improved fuel efficiency and rapid response to fluctuating load demands.
A standout feature of the project was the integration of a No-Break Return system designed to ensure immediate and seamless transfer to generator power in the event of a mains failure. This eliminates production interruptions and protects sensitive equipment, supporting operational resilience.
All electrical integration and commissioning were carried out by Sub Sahara Power Distributors’ in-house technical team, ensuring compliance with JP Engineering’s safety protocols and seamless compatibility with existing infrastructure. Testing and final handover were completed with minimal disruption to operations.
