NTCSA and Eskom announce leaderships shifts in T&D

Two temporary leadership appointments have been announced in South Africa’s electricity sector, including the appointment of a new interim head of the National Transmission Company South Africa (NTCSA).

Monde Bala, Eskom’s Group Executive for Distribution, will assume the role of Interim CEO of the NTCSA from August 1. He succeeds Segomoco Scheppers, who returned to Eskom Holdings following the conclusion of his secondment as interim CEO of NTCSA in May.

Bala’s appointment comes as NTCSA accelerates rollout of its Transmission Development Plan and prepares for the next phase of electricity market reform. The recruitment process for a permanent CEO is currently under way. “Bala is a seasoned executive with solid experience of the power sector, and the NTCSA Board is looking forward to working with him and the team as we drive our strategic deliverables,” said NTCSA Board Chairperson, Priscillah Mabelane.

Agnes Mlambo will step into Bala’s former role as Eskom’s acting Group Executive for Distribution. Mlambo joined Eskom in 2008 and brings over 17 years’ experience to the role.

“We are singularly focused on ensuring we have the executive execution skills and capacity in place to lead employees to successfully enable Eskom to move at pace and play its full part in delivering a competitive marketplace to benefit consumers and the economy of South Africa as a whole,” said Eskom Group Chief Executive, Dan Marokane.
