The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) has extended the deadline for written submissions and supporting evidence in its market inquiry into fixed and capacity charges from October 25 to November 8.
The inquiry, launched on September 25, is assessing how fixed charges, generation capacity charges and other related fees are formulated and applied across the electricity distribution sector – including Eskom and municipalities – and whether these have led to increases exceeding the approved 12,74% tariff adjustment for Eskom.
NERSA’s Full-Time Regulator Member for Electricity Regulation, Nomfundo Maseti, said the regulator recognises the complexity of the issues under review and the need to allow affected parties adequate time to prepare comprehensive, evidence-based inputs. “The extension is granted on the understanding that it will not compromise the quality or thoroughness of stakeholder submissions while ensuring that the process remains on schedule for the timely delivery of findings and recommendations,” she said.
All submission requirements outlined in the original notice remain applicable. The public hearing to enable oral representations will proceed as scheduled on November 17.
