Mozambique floating gas project to double capacity

Mozambique’s Coral Hub is set to double its floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) capacity through a second offshore project designed to produce about 3,6 million tonnes a year.

The offshore Coral Norte floating LNG project will increase the hub’s total capacity to about seven million tonnes a year. The project is being developed by Eni in partnership with China National Petroleum Corporation, Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (Mozambique), Abu Dhabi-based energy investment entity XRG and Korea Gas Corporation.

“The project will be based on an enhanced version of Coral Sul, the first development in Mozambique’s Area 4 offshore gas block. Coral Norte will use a common feed gas composition and deepwater location as well as engineering and integration lessons from Coral Sul,” said Technip Energies.

Mozambique Rovuma Venture has contracted Technip Energies, JGC and Samsung Heavy Industries for engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning work on Coral Norte.

“By leveraging our ‘design one, build many’ approach, we are demonstrating how a standardised model can accelerate large-scale offshore project delivery,” said Arnaud Pieton, CEO of Technip Energies.
