LH Marthinusen opens R32 million industrial fan plant to support Eskom infrastructure

LH Marthinusen, a division of ACTOM, has launched a new R32 million manufacturing and service facility in Ekurhuleni for large-scale industrial fans, including those used in Eskom’s air pre-heater systems. These systems manage air flow and temperature in thermal power stations. The new facility will localise production that has, until now, been largely reliant on imports.

Each fan requires approximately 49 tons of steel and two tons of stainless steel, reflecting significant demand for locally sourced materials.

“By localising fan production, we will anchor downstream demand for our steel producers, driving beneficiation and unlocking economies of scale throughout the metals value chain,” said Parks Tau, Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, at the launch event on Friday, June 30.

The facility includes a maintenance division as well as a research and development hub for reverse-engineering key components such as impellers and blades.

A detailed technical feature on this facility will appear in an upcoming issue of the Energize digimag.
