Hexagon Electrical has expanded its testing and manufacturing capacity at its Brakpan facility to support demand for flameproof and customised electric motors in high-risk environments such as underground mining and chemical processing.
The facility now includes infrastructure to test motors at full load up to 460 kW and 6,6 kV. Mechanical and electrical assessments are conducted in-house alongside vacuum pressure impregnation, coil winding, lamination punching and dynamic balancing. Flameproof inspections are conducted by accredited inspectors and final assemblies are certified to SANS 60079 and SANS 10242 standards.
“This robust equipment is engineered to ensure high performance and optimum safety in critical applications, including ventilation in hazardous areas, chemical processing, materials handling and underground mining,” said David Dyce, CEO of Hexagon Electrical.
Four production bays provide lifting capacity ranging from five to 25 tonnes. Each unit is supplied with full documentation including electrical test reports, balancing certificates and calibration records.
The company has also developed proprietary design software in collaboration with the University of the Witwatersrand, allowing for advanced simulation, stress verification and application-specific winding design.
