Fiat has launched a three-wheeled electric vehicle (EV) for last-mile delivery in African and Middle Eastern markets, targeting logistics in dense urban environments with limited charging infrastructure.
The vehicle, known as the Fiat TRIS, is equipped with a 6,9 kWh lithium-ion battery and offers a homologated range of 90 km. It has payload capacity of 540 kg and accommodates a standard euro pallet. TRIS can be charged from 0 to 80% in just 3,5 hours, reaching the complete recharge in 4 hours and 40 minutes, using a standard domestic plug, Fiat says in a statement. Maximum speed is limited to 45 km/hour, supporting urban distribution without requiring high-voltage charging systems.
Fiat confirmed that the TRIS will be assembled in Morocco with regional rollout across Africa and the Middle East underway. Its compact dimensions – just over 3 m in length with a 3,05 m turning radius – are intended to meet operational needs in congested areas and informal delivery networks.
Although designed for short-range logistics, the vehicle’s low energy requirements could make it suitable for deployment in areas without formal EV infrastructure, including operations supported by off-grid solar charging or distributed battery networks.
