Discovery Green has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with independent power producer Red Rocket for the Tournee Solar Park – a 300 MW solar farm to be built near Standerton, Mpumalanga. The project, financed through a club deal with Absa, Standard Bank and the Development Bank of Southern Africa, is scheduled to begin operating in 2027.
Discovery Green says tournee will comprise around 463 000 bifacial solar modules and connect to the grid via a 132 kV overhead line. It is expected to generate approximately 720 million kWh annually and avoid over 709 000 tonnes of CO₂e emissions each year. “The deal secures long-term, price-certain renewable energy at a time when grid supply is under pressure, supporting competitiveness in a low-carbon economy,” says Andre Nepgen, Head of Discovery Green.
Discovery Green will supply power from Tournee to clients including Impala Platinum, Southern Sun, Fortress REIT, Balwin Properties, KP Lime and The Capital Hotels and Apartments. Tournee is Discovery Green’s second renewable energy project with Red Rocket following financial close on the second phase of the 150 MW Overberg wind farm earlier this year.
