BLU Energy secures electricity trading licence

BLU Label Unlimited’s energy division has secured an electricity trading licence from the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA), enabling the business to aggregate supply and demand and facilitate offtake arrangements as part of its expanding Energy Solutions platform.

The licence was disclosed in the company’s interim results for the six months ended November 30, 2025, where BLU Label said the Energy Solutions platform is developing a municipal and commercial-industrial offering combining prepaid electricity vending, revenue enhancement systems and private power procurement.

According to the company, early power purchase agreements have been secured and a project pipeline is advancing towards commercial execution. The business is also expanding municipal prepaid electricity platforms in partnership with Cigicell while building its energy trading capability.

BLU Label indicated that, although the energy division currently makes a modest contribution to earnings, it is expected to become a more meaningful medium-term growth driver as projects move into construction and begin generating revenue.
