ACTOM Power Transformers has received SANAS ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation for its power transformer test laboratory – a milestone the company says makes it the first facility in Africa to offer accredited in-house routine and type testing for high-voltage transformers.
The laboratory, located in Gauteng, is now certified to perform testing on transformers up to 315 MVA at 420 kV including insulation resistance, dielectric strength, temperature rise and impulse testing. According to ACTOM, the accreditation enables independent verification of test results without requiring third-party or overseas certification.
The facility currently supports more than 50 Eskom-approved transformer designs – many of which are deployed in substation upgrades and grid infrastructure projects across the country. The ability to complete testing locally is expected to shorten lead times and support compliance with local content requirements in public procurement.
“With SANAS accreditation, our customers can now trust that our testing is independently certified to international standards,” said Wilma Muller, Sales and Marketing Manager at ACTOM Power Transformers.
