Vertiv launches modular data centre backbone to cut energy and deployment costs

Vertiv has launched a prefabricated overhead infrastructure system designed to speed up and simplify the deployment of high-density data centres, particularly for cloud and AI applications.

The new Vertiv SmartRun system integrates power distribution, liquid cooling piping, hot-aisle containment and network infrastructure into a single overhead module, allowing facilities to scale faster with reduced complexity.

The manufacturer claims SmartRun can enable data centre installations of more than 1 MW per day, using just a single crew, and reduce on-site deployment time by up to 85% compared to traditional construction. It is intended for greenfield and retrofit deployments in colocation and hyperscale environments.

The system also addresses rising thermal demands in AI data centres by incorporating a secondary fluid network for liquid cooling. Vertiv says the plug-and-play approach reduces labour and engineering input while supporting faster fit-outs in constrained or rapidly scaling environments.

“As digital infrastructure demands evolve, organisations require solutions that accelerate growth without adding complexity,” said Viktor Petik, Senior Vice President of Infrastructure Solutions at Vertiv.
