South Africa’s leading position in driving the continent’s transition to renewable energy has been confirmed with the launch of the first ever Solar Power Africa Trade Show.
Organized by Messe Frankfurt, and in partnership with the South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (SAPVIA), Solar Power Africa 2022 is the first event of its kind dedicated solely to Solar Power and Energy storage and is expected to attract over 100 exhibitors operating in this dynamic market.
Taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 16 to 18 February 2022, attendees will benefit from direct access to expert insights and solutions to a range of challenges, as well as key trends and developments in the renewable energy market.
“Solar power is one of the fastest growing energy sectors globally and across Africa we are seeing increasing uptake as governments and industry transition to renewable energy sources,” says Joshua Low, Group exhibitions Director, Messe Frankfurt South Africa.
“Through Solar Power Africa, our ambition is to support industry players by capitalizing on global best practice, insights from industry experts and of course sharing knowledge. To fully realise Africa’s solar potential, we need to build local capability, empowering investors, developers and operators to develop the right skills, policy environment and manufacturing base. Solar Power Africa will help broker these connections and drive the industry forward,” adds Low.
South Africa’s solar PV market is growing rapidly with ambitious targets to increase capacity installed from PV from 3% to 11% of total electricity supply by 2030 and this represents significant opportunities for investors, manufacturers and operators.
The event has received the endorsement of the solar industry’s leading membership body SAPVIA, who are partnering with the Messe Frankfurt team to deliver an event that is tailored to the needs of Africa’s dynamic and evolving energy sector.
“SAPVIA was formed to support the development of South Africa’s solar PV industry, creating an enabling environment that would secure a sustainable solar powered future. We are delighted to partner with Messe Frankfurt to deliver Solar Power Africa and look forward to 3 days of insights and engagement that will help accelerate the adoption of solar power across Africa,” says Niveshen Govender, Chief Operating Officer of SAPVIA.
Messe Frankfurt is one of the world’s largest trade fair, congress and event organizers and employs more than 2,500 employees across 30 different locations globally. The South African office has an experienced staff complement of over 28 team members with established marketing, sales and operational capabilities.
The event is presented in partnership with Solar Energy Trade Events (SETS), the organisers of Solar Power International (SPI), North America’s largest and most prestigious event for the solar and energy storage sectors.
The South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (SAPVIA) is a not-for-profit industry association serving the collective interests of its over 540 members across the PV value-chain spanning technical service providers, installers, EPC companies, financiers, developers, utilities and IPP’s.
