There is a growing demand from the mining industry to develop solar projects for their operations. This summit aims to connect miners with renewables project developers.
Among the mining presenters confirmed to speak on their renewable energy needs and strategies are senior representatives from Gold Fields, Harmony Gold Mining Company, Pan African Resources, Centamin, Anglo American Group, Ivanhoe Mines, Newmont Africa, AngloGold Ashanti, Giyani Metals Corp., De Beers Group, Insignia Corporation, IAMGOLD Corporation, Sedibelo Platinum Mines, Impala Platinum, Tronox, Rio Tinto, and Sibanye-Stillwater.
This summit focuses on growing project opportunities for solar as part of mining microgrids for diesel-reliant mines across the continent and utility-scale renewables for grid-tied mines looking to reduce carbon emissions and reliance on grid power. South African mines are progressing 3,900+ MW of renewable energy projects at various stages, according to the Minerals Council South Africa.
Over 400+ mining, renewable energy and finance experts are expected to participate in this event which answers these questions for solar experts:
- What are the very latest case studies from African mines integrating renewables?
- What are the timelines and questions for miners assessing solar energy options?
- What commercial structures work best for mining companies investing in solar?
- What would mines would like from developers, EPCs and suppliers to support project uptake?
