In a significant stride towards bolstering Nigeria's energy sector, the 141 MW Aba Integrated Power Project (Aba IPP), financed by Afreximbank, has been officially commissioned in Abia State.
The initiative will have the capacity to distribute electricity across nine local government areas, using three GE LM6000 gas turbines supplied by a 27km gas pipeline with a 140km, 33kV/11kV line distribution system.
The Aba IPP will be a vertically integrated electricity company with both generation and distribution capabilities. It will also distribute its surplus power back into the Nigerian grid.
“The 141MW Aba IPP underscores what can be achieved when public and private sector stakeholders join forces to impact humanity. As champions of trade and industrialisation initiatives in Africa, we believe that it is projects like this embedded IPP that will catalyse trade and economic development in Nigeria and across the region,” says professor Benedict Oramah¸ president and chairman of the Board of Directors of Afreximbank.
