JUWI Renewable Energies has signed two solar module supply agreements with JA Solar for nearly 420 000 PV panels to be deployed across two large-scale South African solar projects totalling 220 MW.
The deals cover the 100 MW Sonvanger solar plant, developed for Glencore in partnership with Pele Green Energy, and the 120 MW Paarde Valley PV2 project supplying Sasol and Air Liquide through a consortium including TotalEnergies, Mulilo and Reatile Group. Both plants are scheduled to begin operating by late 2026 and will collectively span an area equivalent to 160 rugby fields.
The agreement is part of JUWI’s current construction pipeline, valued at over R6 billion, expected to increase South Africa’s installed solar PV capacity by approximately 5% once completed.
“With the country targeting nearly 30 GW of new wind and solar by 2030, and 11 GW of coal scheduled for decommissioning, we need to ramp up renewable energy deployment faster than ever,” says JUWI’s MD Richard Doyle.
