Elangeni Technical and Vocational Education and Training College has launched its Artisan and Skills Development Centre in Inchanga, KwaZulu-Natal, with a renewable energy training centre and photovoltaic (PV) workshop.
The launch was attended by Higher Education and Training Deputy Minister Nomusa Dube-Ncube.
The centre was developed through a partnership between Elangeni, the Department of Higher Education and Training, the Energy and Water Sector Education and Training Authority and the Chinese Culture and International Education Exchange Centre.
“The centre is designed to strengthen training in renewable energy technologies, particularly PV systems, and to support South Africa’s just energy transition agenda by equipping students with practical, industry-relevant skills,” Dube-Ncube said.
The workshop will train students in solar energy systems, installation techniques, maintenance and sustainable energy solutions.
The Artisan and Skills Development Centre supports artisan and trade development, practical workplace skills programmes, renewable energy and PV training, entrepreneurship and industry-responsive technical education, the college said.
A career exhibition during the launch provided information on Elangeni’s programmes, funding opportunities, learnerships, occupational qualifications and career pathways.
The exhibition included information on Energy and Water Sector Education and Training Authority and stakeholder bursaries, apprenticeships and workplace learning, the college said.
