Court ruling on Eskom project stalls SA’s gas roadmap

The Supreme Court of Appeal’s decision to overturn Eskom’s environmental authorisation for its proposed 3 000 MW gas-to-power plant at Richards Bay has effectively stalled South Africa’s short-term gas development trajectory with major implications for the bankability of liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure, private-sector investment confidence and energy security.
