City Power CEO formally resigns

The Board of City Power has announced the resignation of its CEO Tshifularo Mashava, effective March 30, bringing to a close a decade-long tenure at the municipal utility, including four years as CEO.

In a statement, City Power Board Chairperson Makhosini Kharodi confirmed the resignation and acknowledged Mashava’s contribution to the utility’s development.

“Mashava has played a pivotal role in repositioning City Power into a modern energy entity focused on sustainability, governance and service delivery,” Kharodi said.

According to City Power, Mashava joined the utility in 2016 after earlier roles at Eskom and Deloitte. Since becoming CEO in 2022, she led reforms aimed at strengthening governance, improving audit outcomes and diversifying energy supply through renewable integration, electric vehicle initiatives and microgrid pilots. Her tenure also prioritised electrification in informal settlements and measures to reduce unplanned outages.

The Board said Chief Operations Officer Charles Tlouane will assume the role of Acting CEO from April 1 while consultations on a permanent successor continue.
