Building Karreebosch wind farm: Infrastructure at the edge of the grid

Early project works include establishing access roads, site offices and an on-site batching plant in preparation for the large volumes of concrete needed for the turbine foundations.

South Africa’s expanding wind energy sector is increasingly reaching into remote, high- altitude terrain.

An example is the 140 MW Karreebosch wind farm currently under construction between Matjiesfontein and Sutherland.

The project highlights the logistical complexity and infrastructure demands of utility-scale renewable energy development far from existing support networks.
