The 31 MWp Parsons Power Park solar project in Nelson Mandela Bay has commenced implementation following financial close in February 2026.
The project is expected to supply wheeled renewable electricity to large energy users through the Nelson Mandela Bay municipal grid when it comes online in the first quarter of 2027.
Parsons Power Park is being developed by independent power producers Yellow Door Energy, Raw Renewables and Natura Energy with Alensy Energy Solutions appointed as engineering, procurement and construction partner.
Located in Nelson Mandela Bay, the project spans 58 ha and will comprise more than 47 000 solar panels mounted on single-axis trackers. According to the project partners, the facility is expected to generate about 60 GWh of renewable electricity a year.
The electricity generated by the facility will be supplied to businesses in the Coega Special Economic Zone and across Nelson Mandela Bay with PowerX appointed as the offtaker under a power purchase agreement.
According to the project partners, PowerX was the first private-sector electricity trader in South Africa to be licensed by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa and has more than a decade of experience in renewable energy trading.
