The programme for this year’s conference, under the theme “Service Delivery for a Smarter Africa” has been extended to include a much wider ecosystem associated with smart grids. Topics such as smart cities, smart utilities, the fourth industrial revolution, the internet of things, and a number of other associated topics, have been added in order to provide an insightful and stimulating programme.
Keynote and plenary speaking slots have also been extended to include world-class and esteemed experts from India, China and other developing countries that are currently making significant progress in the deployment of smart grids and other associated technologies.
On the basis of improved efficiency and economics, it is strongly believed that the deployment of smart grids in South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa would be of significant benefit in terms of improving service delivery in this region.
Smart grids are the next generation of electrical distribution networks that incorporate and make use of information and communications technology (ICT) to dynamically manage the electrical grid in terms of balancing supply and demand in real time.
