Myth: Harmonics are caused by distorted waveforms in electrical circuits

Distorted or discontinuous waveforms are commonly described as comprising the fundamental frequency plus a series of harmonic sinusoidal waveforms at multiples of the fundamental frequency. The uncomfortable truth is that harmonics do not physically exist.
