Globeleq, an independent power producer in Africa, has appointed Jonathan Hoffman to the newly created position of Chief Development Officer (CDO). Hoffman has led business development activities in Southern Africa as a managing director since 2015. He originated and managed Globeleq’s growth in South Africa and Mozambique.
The CDO role will unify the company’s growth strategy. Hoffman’s deal-making skills and knowledge of the power sector in diverse regions place him in a unique position to lead an experienced power development and investment team dedicated to growth.
Starting with Globeleq in 2010, his leadership was instrumental in securing South Africa’s first wind and solar ventures and building a robust pipeline of projects across the region. In recent years, he helped to secure the Temane gas-fired power and the Cuamba solar storage projects in Mozambique. He continues to support the regional team to bring these deals to financial close.
The company’s CEO, Mike Scholey, says Hoffman’s experience will provide guidance and leadership to the team, enabling the generation of more much-needed electricity. The role of CDO will be based in Cape Town, South Africa.
Hoffman previously worked for ABB Energy Ventures on landmark projects, Bear Stearns in M&A, and co-founded InfraCo pioneering infrastructure projects in Southeast Asia. He has more than 18 years of experience in the power and other infrastructure sectors, working extensively across Africa, South-East Asia, India, Europe and parts of the Americas.
